How Much Does Window Replacement Cost in Utah? (2026)

Phoenix Exteriors

“How much for new windows?” is the first question at every window estimate, and the honest answer is a range that depends on your house. Here’s what vinyl replacement windows actually cost in Utah in 2026, what moves the number, and how to read a quote so you can compare two of them fairly.

The Short Answer

What you’re replacingTypical installed cost (Utah, vinyl)
One standard window$450 to $1,100
Full-frame instead of insertAdd $150 to $400 per opening
A whole home, 10 to 15 windows$7,000 to $18,000

These are market ranges for vinyl replacement windows in Utah, not a price list. Every opening gets measured, and the real number comes from what’s in your walls.

What Moves the Price

Size and style

Bigger windows cost more, but style matters as much as size.

  • Sliders and single-hung windows are usually the least expensive: simple frames, few moving parts.
  • Double-hung windows cost a bit more, since both sashes open and tilt in for cleaning.
  • Casement and awning windows cost more again. They open on a crank, and the hardware and sealing add up.
  • Picture and fixed windows don’t open, but large ones need more glass and more help to set.
  • Bay and bow windows cost the most by far. They project out from the wall and often need structural support and their own roof.

The glass package

Most of a modern window’s energy performance is in the glass. Low-E coatings reflect heat, and argon gas between the panes slows heat moving through. Those are standard on good vinyl windows today, and upgraded packages cost more. On west and south walls that take Utah’s afternoon sun, the glass package is where money is best spent.

Insert or full-frame

This is the biggest single decision on a window job, and it’s why the table above has a separate line for it.

  • Insert (sometimes called retrofit): the new window fits inside your existing frame. The interior trim stays, the job is faster, and it costs less.
  • Full-frame: the old window comes out down to the rough opening, so the installer can see and fix what’s behind it. It’s the right call when the frame is rotted, out of square, or leaking. Expect roughly $150 to $400 more per opening.

An insert over a rotted frame looks finished on day one and fails quietly. The right choice depends on what’s there when the old window comes out, which is why a good estimate checks every opening.

The window line

Most brands sell good, better and best lines. We install three Alpine lines, the 7000 Series, the 8000 Series and Montrose, and the step up in frame and glass shows up in the price. We bring samples of all three to the estimate so you can see what the difference buys.

Grids and exterior color

Grids between or on the glass, and a colored exterior instead of white, look great and cost real money. For a sense of scale, the 2025 Cost vs. Value report prices a Salt Lake City project of 10 double-hung vinyl windows with simulated divided-light grids and a custom exterior color at $21,213. That’s about $2,100 a window, roughly double the top of the typical range above, and most of the difference is the options.

Access and extras

Second-story and hard-to-reach windows take longer and may need extra equipment. Basement windows being enlarged to meet egress code are a different job altogether, since the opening itself changes. Disposal of the old windows and exterior trim work should be in the quote, not added later.

Glass-Only Repair: The Cheaper Option

If a window is fogged between the panes, the seal on the insulated glass has failed. When the frame and sash are still sound, replacing just the glass unit costs considerably less than a new window. It’s not always worth it on an old window that’s failing in other ways, but it’s worth asking before you replace a whole house of windows because a few have fogged.

Is It Worth It?

New windows pay you back in three ways, and it’s worth being honest about each.

  • Energy. Replacing single-pane or failed double-pane windows makes the biggest difference. If your windows are already decent double-pane units, new ones improve comfort and drafts more than they change the utility bill. Anyone promising a specific dollar saving is guessing.
  • Comfort and noise. Fewer drafts, less heat off west-facing glass in July, and a quieter house near a busy road.
  • Resale. In the Salt Lake City market, a vinyl window replacement recoups about 43 percent of its cost at sale, according to the same Cost vs. Value report. New windows help a house sell; they rarely pay for themselves at closing.

How to Compare Two Quotes

A single number for “10 windows” tells you nothing. A useful quote shows, for every opening:

  1. The size, style and window line, so you know you’re comparing the same product.
  2. The glass package, including Low-E and gas fill.
  3. Insert or full-frame, and why. Be wary of a quote that’s all inserts without anyone having looked at the frames.
  4. Trim, disposal and cleanup, itemized.
  5. The warranty, both on the window and on the installation, in writing.

When two quotes match on all five, the price gap between reputable installers is usually much smaller than it first looks.

Paying for It

Many window companies, including us, offer financing so a whole-home project can be a monthly payment instead of one check. See the financing section on our window replacement page.
